November 2015 - MacKay Shields is a long-time supporter of the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF). Employees cooked their favorite dishes to compete for the title of office top chef and raised more than $1,000 for pediatric cardiomyopathy research and education.

September 2015 - During MacKay's 2015 Month of Service volunteer project benefiting the children of The Alcove, MacKay employees decorated 40 Quilts & 40 Pillows from Soaringwords and donated them to The Alcove Center for Grieving Children & Families in NJ. These Quilts & Pillows were provided to children who are grieving the death of a loved one.

March 2014 - MacKay Shields employees united to support the New York Life Give for Good campaign, a focused opportunity to rally for causes that are near and dear to us and our families. MacKay raised a total of $98,184.84, the 7th highest total dollar donation by all New York Life offices. We hosted events focused on raising awareness of what it means to give.

• Mini Olympics Challenge – Employees competed in a series of fun and challenging individual and team Olympic style activities including sand volleyball, rock climbing, tower power jenga, “hot shot” basketball, and a relay race. MacKay teams raised $29,486 (118% raised of $25,000 goal) for the Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families.

• MacKay Giving Campaign Silent Auction – Artwork that was in our 9 West 57th Street office location was sold to the highest bidders. The sale proceeds benefited the Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families.

The Alcove provides peer support groups for children ages 3 to 18 and adult peer groups for their surviving parent, grandparent or guardian. The children participate in activities that are designed to help them discuss death through play, art, storytelling, music and talking.

October 2013 - MacKay partnered with Make A Wish and the Alcove to help create Wish Sacks that were provided to children upon learning that their wish was being granted. Through this Month of Service project – Supporting our Children, MacKay created 31 wish sacks for Make A Wish children and collected over $300 worth of supplies to restock the Alcove’s shelves. The Alcove’s mission is to provide a safe place where children and their families who are grieving the death of a loved one can receive comfort and support through the healing process. MacKay continued to support this mission and assisted in stocking the Alcove’s shelves with items that will be used in counseling children. Click below to view Make A Wish - Thank You.

June 2013 - MacKay Shields was proud to support our nation’s deployed heroes through Operation Write Home. This organization has sent cards overseas so our service members can keep in touch with their loved ones while they’re away. MacKay was proud to host a “Make and Give” Event to create cards for them and supported our wounded soldiers by donating to Soldiers’ Angels. Soldiers’ Angels facility in Germany provides on-site support for patients during their stay at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center after medical evacuation. At our “Make and Give” Event we collected the most needed items requested on their site.

Parent Company New York Life Donates $100,000 To Relief Efforts In Oklahoma.

NEW YORK, May 24, 2013 – New York Life announced today it will donate $100,000 to the relief efforts in Oklahoma with a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross and a $50,000 donation to one or more local nonprofit organizations to be determined in the months ahead. Hearts of Hope —

Over 50 ceramic keepsake hearts with hand-written messages of hope were painted to support the families of Newtown, Connecticut.

February 2013 - A Pay it Forward Community Service Program, Hearts of Hope are delivered as gifts to communities facing tragedy and transitioning through difficult times in their lives. Each heart is accompanied by a greeting card personalized by the painter. To date, over 35,000 hearts have been created and distributed, and the program continues to grow. MacKay Shields partnered with Interregnum Inc. and the Hearts of Hope nationwide group of volunteers. We painted and distributed over 50 beautiful ceramic hearts to families of Newtown, Connecticut.

The Alcove —

150 backpacks were assembled with art and craft supplies and other items to assist children during a 12 week bereavement program. The Alcove program provides support for children, teens and adult caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one.

September 2012 - MacKay Shields adopted the Alcove as a charity fundraiser. The Alcove, based in Northfield, NJ, offers activity-based peer support groups for children, teens and adult caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one, most often a parent, sibling or grandparent. They receive care and support in a safe place where they can express themselves through play, art, storytelling or music. Since its inception 11 years ago, the Alcove has helped more than 3,000 people in NJ. It solely looks to private funds for support and operates a thrift store in order to raise additional funds to assist its bereavement program. Through the generous support of MacKay’s employees, both in volunteering their time and money, 150 backpacks filled with items were assembled for the Alcove support groups. In addition, the firm donated approximately $500 to the Alcove and has submitted a team grant with the Volunteers for Life section of the New York Life Foundation in order to provide additional funds to The Alcove.

The Wight Foundation —

by offering insights into their professions, colleagues at MacKay, in partnership with Madison Square Investors, hosted a Career Day for young men and women of the Greater Newark area.

On July 26th, 2012, MacKay Shields and Madison Square Investors teamed up and co-hosted “Careers Within the Investment Management Industry” for the Wight Foundation College Scholars. The Wight Foundation was founded with the mission to provide superior educational opportunities for young men and women of the Greater Newark area to achieve academic excellence and personal development within a boarding school environment. Many employees from a variety of different teams participated and gave the scholars insight into their professions and also provided perspectives of those just entering the investment management industry.  It was a great day for both the students and our employees.

Dress for Success Campaign —

Over 100 clothing and accessory items were collected for disadvantaged women to help them prepare for job interviews.

Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. MacKay Shields ran a month-long campaign to collect and donate clothing from our employees and their families. We collected over 100 articles of clothing and accessories to help support the Dress for Success New York City Program.
